Beer Earner ("we", "us") is a fitness motivation app that converts workout calories into beer equivalents. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
Data we collect
When you connect your Strava account, we receive and store:
- Strava profile: Your athlete name, Strava ID, and email address
- OAuth tokens: Access and refresh tokens to read your activities (stored encrypted)
- Activity data: Activity type, name, distance, duration, calories burned, elevation gain
- Calculated data: Beer equivalents, streaks, badges, and leaderboard rankings
How we use your data
- Beer calculation: Converting your workout calories into beer equivalents
- Email notifications: Sending workout summaries and weekly recaps (opt-out available)
- Leaderboard: Off by default. You appear on the public board only after you switch on Show me on the public leaderboard in Settings, and then as first name, last initial, pint total and the flag of the country you last worked out in. Your full name and Strava profile are never published.
- Shareable cards and pages: Generating workout images and pages you can share. They exist only for activities you press Share on, and they show initials, not your full name
- Strava descriptions: Optionally adding beer counts to your Strava activity descriptions
Data storage & security
- All data is stored in a PostgreSQL database on secure servers
- OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption
- All connections use HTTPS/TLS
- We do not sell, share, or transfer your personal data to third parties for marketing
Third-party services
We use the following services to operate Beer Earner:
- Strava API: To read your workout data (Strava Privacy Policy)
- Resend: To send email notifications
- OpenAI: To generate fun activity descriptions (no personal data is sent, only activity stats)
- Plausible Analytics: Privacy-friendly analytics with no cookies or personal data tracking
Cookies
We use only essential session cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party cookies. Our analytics (Plausible) is cookie-free.
Your rights
You can at any time:
- Delete your account: Settings → Disconnect. This removes all your data and revokes Beer Earner on Strava in the same step
- Choose how often we email you: Every activity, one daily pour slip, the Monday tab only, or never — in Settings, or one click from the link in any email
- Revoke Strava access: In your Strava connected apps settings
- Request data export: Contact us and we'll provide your data in a portable format
- Control leaderboard visibility: Switch the public leaderboard on or off in Settings. Default is off
When you delete your account, all associated data (activities, badges, tokens) is permanently removed from our database.
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all data is removed from the live database immediately. Encrypted database backups are kept for 14 days and then overwritten; deleted accounts are never restored from them.
Children
Beer Earner is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
Changes
We may update this policy occasionally. Significant changes will be communicated via email to registered users.
